Dirty tricks coming up

AS the local poll campaign goes into high gear, expect the usual (yes, they’re well known in media circles) paid hacks and black propaganda artists to also get busy. Already, we hear of some characters now laying out the plans for mayhem against some targets – and their possible demands to the would-be victim(s) in exchange for sparing the latter from agony and scandal.

How these lowlifes in media could so easily wreak havoc on other people’s reputations by the power of unverified accusations or outright concoctions sometimes makes us wonder if Media, as it now stands, can ever claim to be the “voice of the oppressed and defenseless” with such people working right in its midst. Worse, some managers and media leaders either seem totally clueless about their workers’ blackmail activitiesor are into the game themselves, abetting it for sheer individual or company profit and partaking of the fruits of their people’s evil enterprise.

Now, if some so-called mediamen or other get their comeuppance sometime from parties hurt by their underhanded  “dirty tricks,” would it still be right to rise in righteous anger over their fate and denounce  the “assault to press freedom” like such “colleagues” were vestal virgins?

You tell us. Frankly, we’re in inner turmoil over that
