Benjie Lim having a grand time

HAD an informal chat with Mayor Benjie Lim along with a handful of media colleagues at Masarap Grill in Magiclub last Thursday after the Patrima Kapihan and I ended up watching his body language, more than the language. In the light banter he’s so used to having with media guys whenever he has the chance (what, no flowing coffee or softdrinks this time?), the BSL sharply asked everyone: “Okay, if I were to announce I was not running for congressman to you now, tell me would you still be seeing JoedeV around more often than you see him now?”
Some heads tentatively nodded, some chins were stroked for invisible beard or stubble.
Then I asked, “Why haven’t you resigned from the Lakas yet?” then added as an afterthought, “… and why has Lakas not asked you to resign yet?”
It was, they were, the questions everyone who has heard the running attacks launched by Benjie on GMA and JDV, had in mind. Who is tolerating whom? Some sado-masochism at work here? Are we, ordinary mortals, missing out on something here?
We didn’t quite hear the mayor’s reply but we did see him smile his naughty smile.
He said something about hoping it would be a “free zone,” the fourth district, that is. Then we remembered Kampi’s Ronnie Puno.The enemy of my enemy is my friend?
